Mining Tyre Waste Is a Separate Material Stream

Heavy-vehicle and mining tyres present different handling challenges from ordinary steel or non-ferrous scrap. Large tyres can be difficult to store and transport, and their rubber, steel reinforcement and other components may require specialised facilities and processes.

This article is general educational information for industrial site managers. It does not state that Pilbara Scrap Metal Recyclers accepts, processes or collects waste tyres. Confirm tyre services separately with an appropriate provider.

Start With Identification and Storage

Identify the tyre type, condition, approximate size and quantity before arranging removal. Check whether a tyre is still in serviceable condition or is genuinely at end of life, and follow the operator’s site safety systems when moving heavy tyres.

Storage arrangements should consider stability, site access, weather exposure and relevant fire or environmental requirements. Specialist equipment and trained personnel may be needed for handling large tyres. Do not cut or burn tyres on-site as a shortcut to disposal.

Why Tyres and Scrap Metal Should Not Be Mixed

A tyre may contain embedded steel reinforcement, but that does not make the entire tyre an ordinary metal scrap item. Mixed consignments can create handling, pricing and acceptance problems when the receiving facility has different processes for each stream.

Where a site also has separate steel equipment, cables, wear components or metal offcuts, identify those materials independently. Ask an appropriate tyre recovery service about the tyre waste and a scrap-metal specialist about the metal materials.

Discuss Appropriate Recovery Routes

Depending on condition, legal requirements and available facilities, end-of-life tyres may be managed through specialist reuse, retreading, recycling or other regulated pathways. These outcomes require case-by-case evaluation; no one route is automatically appropriate for every tyre.

Industrial operators should verify contractor capability, any required approvals and the records needed for their own site obligations before engaging a provider.

When Your Site Also Has Scrap Metal

For the metal portion of a clean-up or equipment replacement project, Pilbara Scrap Metal Recyclers can discuss its published scrap-related services. Prepare separate descriptions for metal scrap and for tyres, and do not assume a combined collection is available.
